The Memoirs of Pakistan’s Founders
Written by: Hamari Urdu Kahaniyan
A young man who migrated to Pakistan with a convoy recounts what he witnessed along the way:
"On the journey, we came across a few Muslim women scattered along the road — we took them along with us. The Sikhs and Hindus had unleashed their cruelty to the fullest.
As we were leaving Hoshiarpur, we found a woman lying injured. When my father picked her up, her legs and chest were mutilated. She belonged to a well-known family. When my father found out, he could not hold back his tears.
The woman only said this:
‘Please go on, Uncle. Don’t grieve. Even after all that’s happened, Pakistan has been created. I’m happy that I was of some use to my people.’After crossing the canal, we were all trembling with emotion, when suddenly we heard a moaning sound from nearby. An elderly doctor, Dr. Naseeruddin, stepped forward and asked, ‘Who is it?’
A female voice responded.
He rushed to her aid. A woman lay there drenched in blood. He tried to give her water and tend to her wounds, but nothing helped.
Before dying, the woman said:
‘In the battle of Sham Chaurasi, my father, seven brothers, uncle, and his four sons were all martyred. My three sisters drowned in the canal while fighting back and trying to protect their honor. My mother was murdered. I hid, but they found me. When they came near, I wounded two of them with a knife and cleaver. Enraged, they did this to me.’As she took her last breath, this helpless woman said:
‘Please convey my salute to Pakistan.’The Muslims of Jalandhar contributed to the Pakistan Movement with unmatched courage, compassion, and immense sacrifice. Their efforts are a shining chapter in the history of Pakistan.
They gave their lives to preserve Pakistan’s Islamic identity and made unforgettable sacrifices for its creation.
The stories from the Jalandhar refugee camp were heartbreaking. I still remember one woman who was on her deathbed. When she found out we were heading to Pakistan, she called over an elder and said:
‘These are my jewelry pieces. All the men in my family have been martyred. Please deliver these to Quaid-e-Azam. Maybe they can help Pakistan in some way.’‘The wounded feet that stepped onto the soil of Pakistan did not just bring dust — they brought with them the blood of history.’
If you too are a guardian of such stories, if your elders bore the pain of migration, or if you carry an untold tale of love for Pakistan in your heart — then please write to us.
We want Hamari Urdu Kahaniyan to be more than just a name — a movement that keeps alive the forgotten tales of sacrifice, loyalty, and faith.
